Comics Plus is a library service where you can borrow digital comics and read them on your computer or device. And it’s all free! So to celebrate this amazing technological advancement, come to Hounslow and Heston libraries for a very low-fi comics workshop!

Join Karen Rubins, artist of The Phoenix Comic’s  Shivers series, to make your own comics! Create the scariest monster you can think of, and a hero to confront it, then write and draw your own comic strip to decide what happens when they meet.

This session is open to children 7 – 11 years old and their parents or carers. Come and create awesome collaborations!

Easter Daze: Comic Masterclass (Waltham Forest) @ Leyton Library

This masterclass is for ages 11 – 14 and is part of Waltham Forest’s Holiday Activity Programme

If you’re interested in comics or love drawing manga and you want to take your skills to the next level, this Comics Masterclass is for you. Join comics artists Karen Rubins and Tammy Taylor in a week long workshop, where you will create your own comic strip or manga story from beginning to end. Learn drawing, writing, and design skills, develop techniques and style, and try out professional comic-making materials. Participants will need to bring a packed lunch and plenty of soft drinks.

Classes are from 3 – 7 April, 10:00am – 3:30pm

The masterclass is free, all materials are provided, but please book online to ensure a place.

The workshops are inclusive of children with SEN and/or disabilities, however if your child does have additional needs please contact the organiser on 020 8496 3000 so they can ensure the provider can meet the needs of your child.

If you’ve never drawn manga before and want to learn how, this is the course for you. Find out what manga is all about and where it comes from. We will cover drawing faces, bodies and expressions, how to use different styles, and you will create your characters and bring them to life in a manga comic page. Suitable for complete beginners.

This course runs Monday-Friday 9:30-12:30 and is suitable for ages 11-14

Have you created your own characters or stories and want to know what to do next? Do you want to advance your skills up to the next level? In this course you will be developing more advanced techniques in writing, drawing, and designing, and learn everything you need to know to tell your story through manga. Attendees should have some experience of drawing manga, creating characters, and/or making comics.

This course runs Monday-Friday 9:30-12:30 and is suitable for ages 14-16

If you want to get in to creating your own comics, this course will take you through the process, from plotting to creating storyboards, to choosing the right panels and producing your own comic strip. You will learn about different kinds of comics from gag strips to graphic novels. Writing and/or drawing experience preferred, but no special knowledge of making comics is necessary.
